Kira Nelson Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my blog.

I grew up playing for endless hours in wheat fields, and abandoned barns, exploring the vast expanse of my childhood farm.  Inevitably this lead to a life filled with adventure, fun and a lot of imagination.   All of my adventures have found their way into the expression of my photography and I love being able to express myself and my view of the world through the lens of my camera.

I am inspired by fashion, as well as vintage & nostalgic surroundings... mixed with my unique style my images are young, fresh, fun and modern.

If you would like to get in front of my camera, and create images that are uniquely you, feel free to  shoot me an email.  I can't wait to hear from you!

Cheers!
Kira Nelson

Jenny & Ryan : Saskatoon Maternity Photography

A couple days ago, while Robins cousin Jenny and her husband Ryan were visiting from Calgary, we got together with the two of them for a maternity shoot. They’re expecting baby #1 and it’s a boy!! I just can’t wait to meet him and find out the name they have picked out for him. And doesn’t Jenny look hot in the first photo? I love it.

We did the majority of the shoot in a grass meadow. Such a great setting for this soon to be mommy and daddy.

I would like to thank Morgan and Dan and their wonderful friends and family for being so kind and welcoming to us yet again, we can’t wait to come back to see you throw another party. We truly had a great time being able to document the wedding. Congratulations Dan & Morgan,  two are an amazing couple and we wish you both the best. Please enjoy the photos.

Karen + Jeff : Married

The sunlight trickled in through the stained glass of the church and kissed their faces as they stole glances and whispered sweet nothings under their breath to each other.  Karen and Jeff had touches of old Hollywood everywhere in their wedding and it was fabulous, touches of antique lace, red roses and dahlias, bow ties and vintage jewlery.

Karen and Jeff, I hope your wedding was everything you imagined and more, you are so beautiful inside and out and we were so honored to be part of your wedding day…  enjoy a few of our favorites

Chantelle + Brady : Married

After Chantelle and Brady’s fun and adorable e session a last year, I was definitely looking forward to their wedding! It was a perfect August day, not too too hot, but it was gorgeous, not too breezy, a little bit of sun but just enough cloud to make for some amazing photos. It started with their wonderful garden ceremony at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Wedding Gardens. After their amazing ceremony we set out for some fun shots with them and their bridal party.  Thanks again for such a beautiful day you two: you are just too sweet and too considerable and too adorable to be real. Saskatoon Engagement Photography : Kent + Kerri

Well when Kent and Kerri called me up one day to inquire about wedding collections, they were kind, and polite, but most of all had a energy about them that I could get over the phone.  They let me know that they were coming into Saskatoon in a couple weeks and would like to get together.  So over coffee we chatted about their wedding, the venue, recommendations for other vendors, and of course photography.  And as we got into talking we discovered that Kent and I in fact grew up minutes from each other, our brothers went to school together, and the land that Robin and I own is down the road from his parents…. insert creepy horror movie music here… it seems to be small world ….

I loved when I found out how these two met: online. Sometimes couples are hesitant to admit that, but I think it’s awesome!  Kent lives in Arkansas, and Kerri in Texas so naturally I had to know how their paths initially crossed.   Kent had tried dating in his area, but admitted to me it was ’slim pickins.’ Hahah!  So he decided to expand his search to a 3 hour radius.   So BING… Kent had hundreds and hundreds, maybe thousands of profiles staring him in the face.  So he realized he was going to get a little more specific.  So he did just so, and now had a more manageable 10 page list to peruse.  And as he looked around, one stood out, the profile read… “Not everything from Canada is cold!…” This intrigued Kent, as you see Kent is also a fellow Canadian, so he decided it could be a sign and gave her a wink!   So on the other end Kerri, took a look and they discovered how they are both from Canada.  Well these two Canadians living in the south had made a connection.  So in conversation, he said he was from a small little town called Delisle, Saskatchewan.    Well get out of town, Kerri is from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan!  This must be fate, these two adopted Americans that lived miles apart in the State only grew up just a few hours from each other, and were destined to be together.

And well they hit it off, really so great it turns out that their search for love did work out and these two are becoming husband and wife in a couple months.  Recently they came home for a visit and we took some time to take a few shots,  Enjoy the photos!

University of Saskatchewan Louis’ Wedding : Kristin + Steve

Kristin woke up to the with excitement and anticipation for their big day her and Steve and spent so long planning.  It was finally here!  She sent him a message… “See you at 3:30  ; )  Love You!” and he replied with a giddy “I can’t wait!  Love you too!” This really sums up this couple.  The way he looks at Kristin, he has found his soul-mate.  When Kristen came down the isle, it blew him away and the emotion on his face made me loose my breath!  Kristin and Steve radiate love, they have travelled their road through life together sharing adventures, laughter, their love for motorcycles, and don’t forget their two kitty’s : Tim and Thomas! The adventure has just begun and I know they and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Here are a few favorites from the day, I had a blast with Chelsea from SelfRelextion who was along side me shooting for the day at Louis on the University of Saskatchewan. I think she thinks I’m a little crazy! Enjoy!
